Cotton: Archeologists found that it was grown and used for textile purposes in
the Indus Valley well before 2100 BC and in Mexico by 3500 BC Cotton has beeb
of service to mankind for so long that its versatility is almost unlimited and
new uses are constantly being discovered.
Wool
: But wool provides warmth and
physical comfort that cotton and linen fabrics cannot give. These qualities
combined with its soft resiliency make wool desirable for apparel as well as
for such household uses as rugs and blankets.
Silk
: Silk is
classified as a natural protein filament fiber and is a supposed to be
discovered in 2640BC by a Chinese Princess. Today China is the leading silk
producer of the world . Other major silk producing countries include Japan,
India and Italy.
Flax:. Specimens of lax have been
found in the prehistoric lake dwellings of Switzerland and in the tombs of
Ancient Egypt . Linen mummy-cloths have been identified as more than 4500 years
old.
Jute: Demand for jute goods
reached a peak between two world wars, but since then the industry has
experienced strong competition from bulk handling paper sacks and more recently
synthetic fiber like polypropylene and polyethylene.
